While there are many fully featured drum synthesis modules available in Eurorack, the Soundforce Samples stands out as an option for those in need of a no-frills source for classic 808 sounds. The interface is about as straightforward as it can be; trigger inputs on the left side of the module activate six pre-loaded samples, with audio outputs along the right side. With authentic recordings from a real TR-808, Samples features claves, rimshot, maracas, clap, cowbell, and closed hihat sounds. On the surface this simple module would seem rather limited, but the open nature of modular makes for near-infinite possibilities, such as audio rate triggering, fully independent triggering of each channel, and separate processing of each channel through an array of effects and synthesis processes. SAMPLES is a utilitarian percussion source that can become as expansive as you can patch it.
